Flat lay photography of clothing, turned into on-model images

Lay the garment flat or put it on a mannequin, take the photo, and send it over. We turn it into an invisible ghost mannequin image or show it on a model, without a photo shoot.

From one flat lay to a full product page

Clothing sells better when shoppers can see how it fits. These edits show fit without a model shoot.

  • Invisible ghost mannequin

The mannequin is removed and the inside of the neck and cuffs is filled in, so the garment looks worn.

  • Ecommerce on-model photography

Your garment shown on an AI model, with the pose, body type and skin tone you choose.

  • Flat lay clean-up

Creases, lint and loose threads removed. Shape squared up for a tidy grid.

  • True-to-garment color

Fabric color matched to the real item to cut down on returns.

  • Colorway variants

Every color you stock from a single photo.

  • Consistent grid

Same size, same margins, same shadow across the collection.

Flat lay photography for clothing: how to shoot it

  1. Use a large, plain surface, white foam board or seamless paper on the floor.
  2. Shoot from directly above, standing on a step if needed, so the garment isn’t distorted.
  3. Light it evenly from two sides or from a large window.
  4. Shape the garment: button it, smooth the sleeves and tuck tissue paper inside to give it body.
  5. Take a front and a back photo. We use both to build the ghost mannequin image.

Invisible ghost mannequin photography vs on-model

Ghost mannequin images show the garment’s shape and fit in a clean, consistent way, and they’re the norm for many fashion stores. On-model images show how the piece looks on a person and tend to work better for social media and ads. Many stores use a ghost mannequin image as the main photo and on-model images further down the page.

Without editing, both mean booking a ghost mannequin photographer or a model and a studio. Starting from a flat lay keeps your shoot simple and the costs low.

Questions

Something else on your mind? Get in touch.

What is ghost mannequin photography?

A garment photographed on a mannequin that is then removed in editing, so the clothing looks like it’s worn by an invisible person.

Can you make on-model images from flat lays?

Yes. The garment is fitted onto an AI model with the pose and look you choose, keeping its real color, pattern and details.

Do I need a mannequin?

No. Flat lay photos work. Mannequin photos give slightly better shape on structured items like jackets.

Are the on-model images realistic?

They’re checked for fit, fabric drape and color before delivery. Fine details like logos and prints are kept from your photo.

How much does it cost?

From $3.50 per ghost mannequin image and $6 per on-model image.
