How to remove shadows from a photo
Shadows are areas that get less light than the rest of the picture. The fix is to work out how much light each part received, then bring the dark parts up to match.

Remove shadows from photos of documents online, free
Document mode looks at the page in small tiles and finds two things in each one: how bright the paper is and how dark the ink is. Shadows only change the first number, so the tool can rebuild the page as if it had been lit evenly. The result looks like a scan: white paper, black text, nothing in between.
This works for invoices, receipts, contracts, homework, handwritten notes and whiteboards. If you need a clean copy for a form or an expense report, this is usually all you need.

Shadow remover for regular photos
For photos of people, products or places, Photo mode estimates the light falling on each area and brightens the parts that got less of it. It keeps the colors, so a shadow across a face or a product becomes lighter without turning grey.
Hard, dark shadows with sharp edges are the most difficult case, because the detail inside them may be lost in the original file. Soft shadows from a hand, a hat or a tree come back very well.
- Product photos: lift the shadow on the side away from your light.
- Portraits: lighten the shadow from a cap or a window frame.
- Food photos: remove the shadow your phone casts over the plate.

Document mode is built to look like a scan, with white paper and dark ink. If you want to keep the paper color, choose Photo mode instead.
